Annotation
General Medicine is a 6-year study programme. During the first three years, students focus on theoretical disciplines such as anatomy, biophysics, medical biology, medical genetics, histology, embryology, physiology, medical chemistry and biochemistry, and medical microbiology. The following programme continues with pre-clinical disciplines like pathological physiology, immunology, pathological anatomy, and pharmacology. From the first year, education is also oriented toward practical skills in the care of patients, including first aid and nursing. Clinical propaedeutics start in the second year, and clinical education continues with the start of internal medicine studies in the third year.
The fourth year is oriented mainly toward clinical disciplines, but also includes preventive medicine, public health, and medical law. A block system of instruction for specialised clinical disciplines takes place in the fifth year. During the sixth year, the student acquires deeper practical skills in clinical departments and outpatient clinics.
The graduate of the General Medicine programme acquires the academic title MUDr. (Medicinae Universae Doctor). Graduates are prepared for the practice of medicine, but they also have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills for research and are encouraged to perform their own research. During their studies, students have opportunities to practice abroad.
