about me

My name is Nicole Landau, and I am 24 years old. I am from Haifa, a beautiful city on the coast of Israel.
I’m a student at the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.
As a high school student I was drawn to scientific subjects and I volunteered as a First Aid Responder with Israel’s National Emergency Service. I believe my hunger for knowledge and determination to turn information into action helped me when applying to Charles University.
After graduating from high school I was recruited to Israel’s Defense Force as a Combat Fitness Instructor and later became an officer.
I love travelling, and thankfully I had the opportunity to do so. Before beginning my studies, I spent 7 months backpacking in South America. It was an amazing experience, and one that I hope to repeat some day. I like wave surfing, scuba diving and literally anything that has to do with the sea... But for now, I’ll settle for the Vltava.
I always knew I wanted to study abroad, to experience other cultures and live at the heart of Europe. After a lot of research, I decided I want to study in the Czech Republic and that Charles University was the best choice for me.
My first year in the Czech Republic was exciting, intense, and satisfying. During this year, I faced many challenges, both personal and study-related. As I overcame them, I felt a lot of personal growth and the ability to conquer even more.
Now, as a second-year student, I can definitely say that I am better acquainted with the beautiful city of Prague and university life at Charles.

Why did I choose Charles University?

After deciding to study abroad, I considered several universities in Europe. Charles University seemed the best choice to maximize my potential and make progress in my medical studies.
CU has a good reputation in my home country.

What do I like about my studies in Czechia/the Czech Republic?

Personally, the feeling that the university pushes its students to be excellent and to master their subjects to a high level makes me more ambitious and determined as a student.
Also, I appreciate the beautiful areas where the university buildings are located. I get the chance to study in the centre of Prague, which is fun and exciting.
With the ISIC card, students in the Czech Republic get many discounts, for example on transport fares and tickets to tourist attractions.

Where do I see myself in five years from now?

In five years, I hope to complete my intern year in an accredited hospital and be able to specialize.
Eventually, my ideal path would include a job that integrates medical care and technological advances.
